Timeless bags and accessoires created in Antwerp by our resident artists. Proudly manufactured in Bangladesh from the world’s finest jute.

Founders Rik & Rosanne from the Netherlands visited Bangladesh in 2014 during their world tour. The couple were touched by the social and natural environment, so they decided to contribute to the development of Bangladesh. From this philosophy Juuty® is founded. After half a year of research in Bangladesh, Juuty® started a partnership with a factory, which is affiliated to the CBI (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), that endorses fair trade principles and encourages female labour force participation. The employees work in a safe and positive environment, where everyone is treated equally. Everyone gets a fair wage and is entitled to holidays.

Towards the end of 2016 there was doubt about the future of Juuty® and 3 Belgians decided to take the brand: two entrepreneurs who have not hesitated to step out of their comfort zone, and a thoroughbred fashionista, our Juuty® Ambassador. The philosophy of the founders to work with sustainable materials and produce fashionable bags handmade in Bangladesh, was retained, but expanded to include any fair-trade environment and where future designs were put into the hands of upcoming creative talents.

Juuty® is one of the first and only brands that uses a newly developed type of jute. This jute is very durable, odourless and very soft. This fibre is one of the most environmentally friendly fibres in the world. Partly because of its colour jute is also known as the “golden fibre”.

The leather of the current collection of Juuty® is produced using the most environmentally friendly tanning techniques available in leather production (natural ingredients instead of harmful chemicals). Only 10% of the global leather production is tanned in this way. Juuty® is committed to the long-term use of 100% environmentally and animal-friendly materials.

In addition to creating employment, Juuty® finds it important that people who cannot work are also helped. Therefore, the owners will donate for each sold Juuty®, a package with food to needy people.

Jute also known as ‘the golden fibre’ due to its shiny golden colour and financial worth, jute is valued for its versatility and wide range of applications. This eccentric fibre is one of the most sustainable fibres in the world. This is good for you and the environment!

Jute comes from the stem and outer skin of the jute plant. The fibres are first extracted by a process called retting. Retting consists of bundling stems together and immersing them in slow running water. After retting, the non-fibrous material is scraped off and workers pull the crucial fibres from the jute stem. This laborious job is known as stripping and must be done by hand.

Juuty® is one of the first and only brands that uses a newly developed type of jute. This jute is extremely durable, smell free and soft. The Juuty® bags are hard-wearing and can be used again and again! You could say that “Jute is the new denim!”

As far as eco-friendly fibres go, jute is a real star performer. And when it comes to bags, there is no better choice for the environmentally conscious consumer. Jute is entirely bio-degradable, recyclable and compostable. Jute reaches maturity in under 6 months and offers a large crop yield. This efficiency of growth means less land is required. The woody core of the jute plant has the potential to meet the majority of the world’s wood needs. Underutilised at the moment, jute has the potential to have a huge positive impact on the reduction of deforestation. The plant absorbs large amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
