When arts meet fashion

From Yves Saint Laurent’s Mondrian dresses in the 1960s to Alexander McQueen’s infamous runway shows, art and fashion have always fed into each other in literal and not-so-literal ways. German label Zitat takes the ideas, hues, and forms of contemporary art and turns them into clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories.

Founded in 2007 by Cologne-based art historian Anna Boess, and with its own boutique since 2013, the young label handmakes wearable pieces in limited runs of up to 50 pieces. Zitat’s gym bags enrich a familiar form with contemporary art’s myriad colours, giving the everyday a touch of high culture.
